John A. Isbell

John Isbell represents clients in construction, commercial litigation, general corporate affairs and business transactions.

Mr. Isbell’s construction practice involves the representation of clients in all phases of the construction project, primarily in the commercial arena. Although much of his construction practice is litigation or claims related, he is also adept at providing practical advice to clients regarding the business side of the construction industry.

A significant portion of Mr. Isbell’s practice is devoted to commercial litigation. He has handled a broad spectrum of complex civil disputes for business clients, including contract disputes, real estate litigation, non-competition enforcement, lien enforcement, foreclosures and collection matters. He also provides general advice and counsel to numerous businesses in various industries, advising them in such areas as litigation and risk assessment, succession planning, real estate matters, sales and acquisitions, contracts and leases, and shareholder and partnership matters.

Representative experience

  • Obtained dismissal for Fortune 500 mortgage lender in vexatious litigation arising from foreclosure suit.
  • Obtained substantial recovery for major agribusiness company in breach of contract and non-competition litigation arising from sale of business.
  • Obtained reversal in state court appeal for construction contractors, accused of violating Texas prevailing wage law, in case of first impression arising from construction of DFW international airport terminal.
  • Obtained dismissal for insurance services company in non-competition litigation with former employee.
  • Obtained brokers and management licenses in multiple foreign jurisdictions for Texas multi-family property management company.
  • Negotiated pre-suit resolution of extremely contentious shareholder dispute for management recruiting company, thus avoiding the courthouse and significant litigation expense.
  • Negotiated significant buyout of partner’s interest in construction company.
